Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley and North Shore (ESMV/NS) is seeking a talented, self-motivated, and hard-working individual to join the Information Technology (IT) team. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is statistically savvy, technically adept Data Analyst, with a background in healthcare to conduct analyses and contribute to an overall Agency data strategy to meet business needs. The ideal candidate will be someone with experience in the healthcare industry, analytical and resourceful, and an excellent communicator. They will have experience interpreting and communicating analytic methods and results to stakeholders, are able to tell the story behind raw data to non-technical audiences and will have an interest in Elders.

Position Responsibilities: The Senior Data Analyst role is to collect, analyze, store and present the Agency's data. The Data Analyst will produce quantitative analyses to inform business decisions. They will bring technical expertise to ensure the quality and accuracy of that data, then process, design, and present it in ways to help people, businesses, and organizations make better decisions. Analytic support will be provided by using SQL, SAS and data visualization tools to identify and understand key drivers of quality, cost and utilization. The selected candidate will report to the Chief Information Officer, work closely with the Chief Financial Officer and will collaborate closely with other ESMV/NS departments to identify and answer key analytic questions to inform agency policy and operations and to ensure effective data-driven decision making on existing programs.


  • Lead analyses and produce standard reports using claim and encounter data which support the development, implementation, and monitoring of ESMV/NS programs.
  • Create specifications and logic to perform analyses that support program goals or answer questions about ESMV/NS populations.
  • Manipulate and build datasets from claims and encounter data to support analyses through use of efficient SAS/SQL code.
  • Provide interpretation of data for key stakeholders and leadership, including identification of discrepancies, patterns and trends and the reporting of any considerations about the results.
  • Analyze, interpret, and present information from multiple data sources utilizing a broad array of technology resources (SQL, SAS, Excel, Cognos, Tableau, etc.).
  • Develop in-depth understanding of ESMV/NS data and programs.
  • Manage and prioritize analytic requests from several departments within ESMV/NS.
  • Work collaboratively with the ESMV/NS quality department to ensure a cohesive approach and strategy relative to quality improvement.
  • Work collaboratively with IT staff to develop analytically tools and systems.
  • Effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders and respond to requests.
  • Manage a multitude of complex tasks simultaneously, including prioritizing various tasks, analyzing and evaluating policy and program issues and ensuring that tasks are brought to completion.
  • Understanding data storage and data sharing methods.
  • Build models that capture a wide range of health care operations
  • Converting data into usable information that is easy to understand.
  • Miscellaneous preparation of agendas, minutes, PowerPoint presentations and reports.
  • Attend meetings as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Strong quantitative, analytical and complex problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced understanding of health care administrative data and complex healthcare databases.
  • Knowledge of health care terminology and use of diagnoses, revenue codes, etc.
  • Detail orientated, with excellent time/deadline management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team setting.
  • Excellent customer service skills emphasizing professionalism.
  • Comfortable taking initiative and prioritizing tasks.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a focus on rapport-building, listening, and questioning skills.


  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, Health Informatics, public policy, public administration, public health, economics, health care administration, epidemiology, statistics, or a related field.
  • Master's degree advantageous.
  • 4+ years experience in an analytic role.
  • Understanding of healthcare procedures
  • Proficient in SAS and/or SQL and other data manipulation tools (e.g. Python, R, Stata).
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Sales Force.
  • Experience leading project-based teams on complex initiatives.
  • Experience working with actuaries, clinicians, health policy experts, and other subject matter experts.
  • Knowledge of the Massachusetts health care industry and market dynamics.
  • Knowledge of payment reform and care delivery reform strategies, including an understanding of the relationship between payment reforms, delivery system change, quality improvement, and patient satisfaction
  • Proficiency in managing electronic medical records.

Hours: 37.5 per week
